Botox Q&A

What are Botox and Dysport?

An injectable medicine, Botox limits muscle movement in your face by blocking the signal from your nerves to the muscles. The muscles are unable to contract, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Dysport is an injectable similar to Botox that works to reduce the appearance of skin creases caused by muscle movements.

Unlike other aesthetic treatments for facial wrinkles, there is no downtime after Botox and Dysport, and results are visible in about four days with maximum results experienced in just two weeks.

What are the side effects of injectables?

While both Botox and Dysport are considered safe treatments, some people experience minor side effects including:

  • Redness or bruising at injection site
  • Mild pain at injection site
  • Numbness
  • Headache
  • Swelling

Side effects usually resolve within a few days to a week after the procedure.

Am I a candidate for Botox or Dysport?

Most people over the age of 18 are eligible for Botox or Dysport treatments. You can wait until you are bothered by the increase of wrinkles and lines on your face to get the treatment, or you may decide to get them before you experience wrinkles to delay their appearance.

Do facial injectables hurt?

Prior to starting a Botox or Dysport treatment, the team at Magnolia Skin Care Clinic minimizes any potential for discomfort with a topical numbing cream. Most people don’t experience pain during facial injectable treatments, but you will feel a pinch when the needle is inserted.

Botox treatments take about 20 minutes, after which you can return to your normal daily activities, including work or exercise, without any downtime. If your skin becomes red or bruised at the injection sites, you can cover it with makeup.

Are Botox results permanent?

Botox injections are not permanent. The results last an average of 3-4 months. The Magnolia Skin Care Clinic team customizes your facial treatments to ensure you get maximum results with the fewest treatments. You can schedule additional Botox treatments to maintain your results.
